Leach faces James in lawsuit deposition

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) Mike Leach sat across from his accuser Saturday as Craig James gave sworn testimony in the former coach's lawsuit against Texas Tech.

James, whose complaint of mistreatment of his son led to Leach's firing, declined to comment as he walked into the university's administration building before his deposition.

Leach gave more than five hours of sworn testimony Friday. When asked if he would be questioning James, he said, "I'm not allowed to."

Oregon QB Masoli suspended for season

(AP) -- Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was suspended Friday for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary in the theft of a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The Music City Bowl has extended its partnership with the Southeastern Conference through the 2013 season.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama's biggest task for spring practice might be rebuilding a depleted defense, but the coaches also are making it clear that the Crimson Tide can't dwell on the national championship.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) While 11 of his former University of Maryland teammates pressed to make an impression on NFL scouts, offensive tackle Bruce Campbell smiled for the television cameras and happily answered questions from reporters.

Campbell had nothing left to prove after running the 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.85 seconds and bench-pressing 225 pounds 34 times last month in Indianapolis at the NFL combine. The 6-foot-7, 310-pounder is projected to be a first-round pick in the draft. Read More...

Texas, Terps given recruit-rule reprieve

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The NCAA has given Texas and Maryland a one-year reprieve from a new rule that limits off-campus football recruiting by a coach designated as the head coach-in-waiting.
